Learning opportunity about Childhood eye exams
Posted almost 14 years ago by Jan Taylor
Amy Bearden is a pediatric optometrist and is very interested in talking to primary care providers about kids eye exams and more specifically a condition called convergence insufficiency. Convergence insufficiency is a common binocular vision problem (inability to use the eyes together) that can have a significant impact on kids reading and academic performance. The condition affects about 5% of the population and causes many learning problems for kids that very closely mimic ADD/ADHD. This condition has been in the lime light in the last few years for two major studies; one by a pediatric ophthalmologist and one through the National Eye Institute that has changed current guidelines on diagnosing and managing kids with or suspected to have ADD/ADHD. I am having an open house on this topic on September 28th, Wednesday at my office (2222 James Street Suite A) from 7-8:30 pm for those interested in hearing more. I ask that you kindly RSVP by Septem ber 23rd to our office at 676-4030. Please call us if you have any questions!
