*Action Requested* - WWU/Whatcom community provider survey

Posted 11 days ago by Katie Wahler

Hello community NP colleagues-

I am working with WWU RN to BSN students on a community assessment project with Whatcom Perinatal Mental Health Task Force, and we are reaching out to providers who ever interact with pregnant persons to understand the current practice, barriers, and needs with this population regarding screening for substance use. Please see the email and included survey link from the students below. Our goal is to understand what resources would best support both providers and patients to include on this website: https://whatcomperinatal.org/

In addition to your completion of the survey, I have a request: could you distribute this email widely to any providers you think would be appropriate for this? Primary care, OB, CNM/midwives, community/social service providers, etc. We can encourage people to send out to their networks, as well. Thank you!

Hello,

Our team of BSN students at Western Washington University has been collaborating with our instructor, Katie Wahler, MSN, ARNP, to develop a survey for our partners at the Whatcom Perinatal Mental Health Task Force. This survey focuses on screening practices for pregnant individuals in our community who may be using or misusing substances such as alcohol, nicotine, cannabis, opioids, or other drugs.

We kindly request your participation in this anonymous 5-question survey, which should take only 2-3 minutes to complete. Your input will greatly contribute to our information-gathering efforts.

Survey: Screening for Substance Use in Pregnant Individuals

About our project:

The Whatcom Perinatal Mental Health Task Force aims to enhance their newly launched website with substance use-specific content, benefiting both parents and healthcare professionals. This survey, part of our community assessment, will inform our recommendations for content implementation on their website. We hope that the suggested content will assist providers and perinatal patients using substances in enhancing screening, communication, and overall health outcomes.

Again, we appreciate your time and input on this project. Please reach out if you have any questions or additional information you’d like to add.

Sincerely,

Hannah Williams, Andrew Kossmann, Magda Dermendziev, Amy Bahena
