It's Nurse Practitioner Week!

Posted over 6 years ago by Jan Taylor

51 years ago Nurse Pracititioners entered the American Healthcare scene, and now there are over 234,000 Nurse Practitioners licensed in the United States with 23,000 who graduated within the last year.  We have seen NP's evolve from a post bacheloreate certification to a masters tranined and now the development of Doctoral trained NP's.  Even here in Whatcom County we have seen NP's floursish in their own privately owned practices  as well as in primary, and specialty clinics and in the hospital and extended care facilities.

We have a lot to celebrate!  10 years ago a few of us had the notion to start a professional organization here in Whatcom county, and within 2 years the Mt Baker Nurse Practitioner Association was formed, and encorporated as a non profit professional organization.  We have had over 100 members over the past 10 years, more than 40 still active.  The board and I hope we will see you at our Annual Meeting this Thursday night at 6, so we can celebrate together.  This year we will be bestow  the Georgia Lee Award  for Whatcom County Nurse Practitioner of the year.  Come and see who it will be!  We also will have some fun with fantastic door prizes, and lots of good food catored by Hilltop Catoring.  But best of all, we get to enjoy and encourage each other.  Don't forget to RSVP under the Events page!  See you there!  Jan Taylor
